35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
Matthew 24:35
Today's young generation is so creative that it is developing its own language. When Gen Z people talk, they speak almost in code, and when you're unaware of their slang, you might feel alienated. What do you do when you hear a GenZer call you cheugy? Are you going to clap back, or just vibe? If you're a boomer, Gen X, or a millennial, you're probably scratching your head right now.
One of the terms Gen Zers like to use is FOMO (fear of missing out), which describes the anxiety that an exciting or interesting event may be happening somewhere else. This feeling is often aroused by social media posts.
Zoomers, as they are otherwise called, tend to follow trends because they don't want to be left out. They try to keep up with what's hot on Spotify and feel it is necessary to watch the latest blockbuster on Netflix. The same thing goes for their clothing; they try to look like the celebrities they admire.
The sad part is that when this admiration turns into idolatry—when we allow others to think for us and we blindly follow their philosophies. But a vast majority of the celebrities out there believe that God is dead and we have no use for the Bible.
But Jesus proves them wrong.
In our previous blog, we learned that since God is unchanging, His promises stand—whether they speak of His blessings or judgment. Here’s another reason why the Bible remains relevant in today’s world:
The Bible speaks timeless truth.
Contrary to the claim that the Bible was only useful for the people it was written to, Scripture claims that it is unfailing and everlasting.
In today’s verse, Jesus claims that His word is as authoritative and valid as God’s word. To emphasize the sureness of His predictions, specifically in regard to the events in the last days, He says that heaven and earth will pass away, but His word will never fail.
Since God is eternal, so is His word. Since God’s word is eternal, it will always be relevant. Its truth will always apply, regardless of culture, geography, and even the prevailing worldviews and ideologies.
One of the marks of the Bible’s relevance is that it communicates enduring moral principles, i.e. The Ten Commandments. The laws against murder and stealing are universally accepted as morally right and true. Moreover, it speaks to age-old themes of struggle, victory, sin, justice, forgiveness, and love. It also discusses the proper design for marriage, family, and parenting.
Therefore, wherever we live and whatever generation we are a part of, these topics will always be important. No matter what’s trending or what’s upcoming, the timeless message of the Bible will always be worth our time.
Pursue the Savior today!
