“THREE IN ONE”

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”

Deuteronomy 6:4 

Within Christianity, there are many groups, also known as denominations. They differ in some areas, including the type of government, worship style, and non-essential doctrines. However, despite these differences, they share commonalities, and in this series, we will discuss five core beliefs that unite all Christians.

Biblically speaking, Christians are those who are forgiven of their sins and who have entered a personal relationship with Almighty God through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10). To become a Christian, a person must fully accept as part of his or her worldview the following core beliefs:

There is only one God who exists in three Persons.

Unlike many religions, Christians believe that there is only one God. 

From the beginning of creation in Genesis to the end of times in Revelation, God refers to Himself as "us" or "our" and thus describes the doctrine of the Trinity. The word trinity comes from "tri," meaning three, and "unity," meaning one.

This truth is seen in our verse of the day. While the primary assertion is that there is only one true God, it is also asserted that this true God is the Christian God. Thus, Christians acknowledge no other god. The Lord cannot be known or acknowledged in many forms. There is only one Lord, and He alone is God who established a way for sinful people to be forgiven and made part of His family.

The Trinity is one God existing in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. 

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

2 Corinthians 13:14

This does not imply the existence of three Gods. When studying this subject, the word “Trinity" is not even found in Scripture. This term is used to describe the triune God—three coexistent, coeternal Persons who are God. Of fundamental importance is that the concept represented by the word “Trinity" does exist in Scripture.
