“Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.”
Psalm 16:9
To some, Jesus is like a winning lottery ticket that leads to good health and fortune. They believe that if you pray in Jesus’ name and have enough faith, you can ask for whatever you want, and blessings will come down from heaven and will be delivered right to your doorstep.
However, a Bible-examining believer should know better. Truth be told, far greater things await him who puts his trust in Christ.
In our verse of the day, David speaks of his confidence in God and the things he sees as blessings from the Lord. He gives credit to God for his victories. He also expresses his confidence in the Lord and gives us hints of future resurrection.
David is a well-known biblical figure and is admired by many for his unquestionable devotion to God. He was a man with a strong will and determination to honor the Lord in everything he did and inspired others to love God.
Not only was David commendable because of his immovable faith in God, but he was also aware of the realities of life, i.e., life after death. The reasons for his rejoicing were not limited to earthly possessions and achievements, but he also looked forward to eternity. In his earthly life, he was filled with joy, and his whole being rejoiced in hopeful anticipation of everlasting life. He was not afraid to face death, knowing that one day, God would give him a body fit for eternity.
David and the people of his generation were given only a glimpse of what was to come, but God gave us a full revelation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If David believed, we should all the more put our confidence in the Son of God and live each day with loving trust and hope, knowing that God will one day God will fulfill all of His promises.
Consider the Apostle Paul’s encouragement to the Philippian believers.
20 “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it, we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”
Philippians 3:21
Life with Christ is never dull. As a matter of fact, it is full of excitement, not only because God showers us with His earthly blessings, but also because He promises to take us to Heaven, our future and permanent residence.
Pursue the Savior today!
