5 "I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well."

The task of teaching our kids the Bible does not rest in Sunday School teachers' hands but in ours. That's why we, as parents, play a significant role in the development of our kids' young faith. If we start early, they will thank us later in life.

We have been discussing reasons why you should let your child memorize Scripture. In our most recent blog, we stated that when our kids love God's word, they will know how to respond to various life situations.

They will need it when they face difficulties in life.

Let's draw inspiration from Timothy, who was trained in godliness at such a young age.

Timothy came from a God-fearing family. While he had a Greek father, he had a Christian mother and grandmother. Growing up with both of them and being exposed to the Lord's teaching, Timothy learned the fundamentals of the faith, especially the Torah. He later became a third-generation believer in his family. Together, they were devoted to understanding God's word, allowing Timothy to grow in His knowledge of and walk with God. Timothy's exposure to and training in the Scriptures enabled him to stand firm in the face of hardship. 

Similarly, being trained in the Scriptures from an early age in our lives helps us understand and discern God's will. I remember myself as a young boy being fascinated by the Bible. I had a Filipino version of The Good News Bible, which was relatively easy for me to understand. I recall reading it every single day for months. At the same time, we had a few verses posted on our walls, which allowed me to remember the words and the message of hope they conveyed. Little did I know that this passion would eventually lead me back to God when I needed to find my way back to Him many years later.

When our kids memorize verses, they will remember what they've learned in Sunday School and the training they receive at home. This is essential, not only to their survival during difficult times but also to have unshakable faith when life doesn't seem to make sense.
